I'll tell me ma when I go home The boys won't leave the girls alone. They pulled my hair and stole my comb But that's alright 'til I go home. She is handsome, she is pretty She is the belle of Belfast city She is courting one, two, three, Please won't you tell me who is she Albert Mooney says he loves her All the boys are fightin' for her They knock at and they ring that bell Saying, "Oh, my true love, are you well?" Out she comes as white as snow Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes Ol' Jenny Murray says she'll die If she doesn't get the fella with the rovin' eye Let the wind and the rain and hail blow high And the snow come tumbling from the sky She's as nice as apple pie And she'll get her own lad by and by. When she gets a lad of her own She won't tell her ma when she comes home Let them all come as they will, It's Albert Mooney she loves still.

What would you do if the kettle boiled over? What would I do but to fill it again? What would you do if the cows ate the clover? What would I do but to set it again? The praties are dug and the frost is all over Kitty, lie over close to the wall How would you like to be married to a soldier Kitty, lie over close to the wall What would you do if you married a soldier? What would I do but to follow his gun? What would you do if he died on the ocean? What would I do but to marry again? The praties are boiled and the herring are roasted Kitty, lie over close to the wall For you to be drunk and me to be sober Kitty, lie over close to the wall

Away Rio 03:18
I'll sing you a song of the free rolling sea Away, Rio! I'll sing you a song if you sing it with me And we're bound for the Rio Grande And it's away, boys, away Away, Rio! Fare thee well my bonny fair maid And we're bound for the Rio Grande Johnny came over the other day Johnny came by the other day Give me your hand, my dear lily white If you'll accept me I'll make you my wife Johnny I love and please don't you go If you will stay I will love you so-so She's a deep-water ship with a deep-water crew You can stick to the coast, but you're damned if you do We was sick of the beach and our money was gone So we signed in this packet to drive us along Blow ye winds steadily, blow ye winds, blow She's a starvation packet, Good God, let her go!

Whiskey, you're the devil, you're leadin' me astray Over hills and mountains and to Americay You're sweeter, stronger, decenter, you're spunkier than tae Oh whiskey, you're me darlin' drunk or sober Now, brave boys, we're on the march, off to Portugal and Spain The drums are beating, banners flying, a divil home will come tonight Oh love, fare thee well With me dithery-iddle doodle dumma da Me dithery-iddle doodle dumma da Me rikes fall tour a laddie, oh there's whiskey in the jar Whiskey, you're the devil, you're leadin' me astray Over hills and mountains and to Americay You're sweeter, stronger, decenter, you're spunkier than tae Oh whiskey, you're me darlin' drunk or sober The French are fighting boldly, men dying hot and coldly To every man his flask of powder and firelock on his shoulder Oh love, fare thee well... Said the mother, "Do not harm me, don't take my daughter from me. For if you do, I'll torment you, and after death a ghost will haunt you." Love, fare thee well...

Sherramuir 02:05
O cam ye here the fight to shun, Or herd the sheep wi' me, man? Or were ye at the Sherramuir, Or did the battle see, man?" I saw the battle, sair and teugh, And reekin-red ran mony a sheugh ; My heart, for fear, gaed sough for sough, To hear the thuds, and see the cluds O' clans frae woods, in tartan duds, Wha glaum'd at kingdoms three, man. The red-coat lads, wi' black cockades, To meet them werena' slaw, man; They rushed and pushed, and blood outgushed And mony a bouk did fa', man: The great Argyle led on his files, A wat they glanced for twenty miles; They houghed the clans like nine-pin kyles, They hacked and hashed, while broad swords clashed, And thro' they dashed, and hewed and smashed, Till fey men died awa, man. But had ye seen the philibegs, And skyrin tartan trews, man; When in the teeth they dar'd our Whigs, And covenant True-blues, man: In lines extended lang and large, When bayonets overpowered the targe, And thoosands hastened to the charge; Wi' Hieland wrath, they frae the sheath Drew blades o' death, till, out o' breath, They fled like frichted dows, man! They've lost some gallant gentlemen, Amang the Hieland clans, man! I fear my Lord Panmure is slain, Or fallen in Whiggish hands, man, Now will ye sing this double flight, Some died for wrang, and some for right; But mony bade the world gude-night ; Wi' pell and mell, and muskets knell, The Tories fell, and Whigs tae hell Flew off in frichted bands, man!

Raglan Road 06:26
On Raglan Road on an autumn day I saw her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue; I saw the danger, still I passed along the enchanted way, And I said 'Let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day.' On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge Of a deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge, The Queen of Hearts still baking tarts and I not making hay - Oh, I loved too much and by such and such is happiness thrown away. I gave her gifts of the mind I gave her the secret sign that's known To artists who have known true gods of sound and stone And word and tint. I did not stint, I gave her poems to say With her own name there and her own dark hair like clouds o'er fields of May On a quiet street where old ghosts meet I see her walking now Away from me so hurriedly my reason must allow That I have loved not as I should a creature made of clay - When an angel woos the clay he'd lose his wings at the dawn of day.

about

The Elderberries Oakland, California

We are "fine lads," or so some say, but that cannot be
because, among other reasons, we are not all lads. We are all friends
who met at the Starry Plough in Berkeley, united by our love of
traditional Irish music and dance. You can expect from us free and roving
sets of several hours or more, comprising jigs, reels, hornpipes, aires,
waltzes, slides, slip jigs, a variety of songs, and dance.
